You are the highest honor of our race.
MARY, MOTHER OF
GOD,
GOD,
PRAY FOR US.
There are many things one could do today to celebrate the Dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, and Our Lady of the Snows. If are fortunate enough to be in Rome, a visit to the basilica would be a priority. In addition, or otherwise, if you happen to find yourself in a difficult or not so difficult situation today, why not join Mary in her Fiat: "Let it be done to me according your word" (Lk 1:38). Praying your favorite Marian prayer is something else to do. Perhaps at a time you are leaving one thing to go to another. One of my favorites, thanks to Sr Josephine, OSB, of happy memory is Hail, Holy Queen, included here.
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To you do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.
OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS,
PRAY FOR US.
