Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 65:11-21
Mass: Is 22:19-23; Resp Ps 138; Rm 11:33-36; Mt 16:13-20
Let all your works give you thanks, O Lord, and let your faithful ones bless you.
It is a personal question Jesus asks each one of us today. And I don't think He wants a "royal we", or a "he said, she said, or some people said" answer. Who do you say that I am? (Mt 16:15). Something to consider before answering may be one of Saint Benedict's tools for good works: "The love of Christ must come before all else" (RB 4:21). "For from Him and through Him and for Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen" (Rm 11:36). I believe, Lord, help my unbelief.
YOU ARE THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD.
(Mt 16:16)
Faith
Czeslaw Milosz
Faith is whenever you look
At a dewdrop or a floating leaf
And know that they are because they have to be,
Even if you close your eyes and dream up things
The world will remain as it has always been
And the leaf will be carried by the waters of the river.
You have faith also when you hurt your foot
Against a sharp rock and know
That rocks are here to hurt our feet.
See the long shadow that is cast by the tree?
We and the flowers throw shadows on the earth.
What has no shadow has no strength to live.
May Mary Most Holy, blessed because she believed, be our guide and model on the path of faith in Christ, and make us aware that trust in Him gives full meaning to our charity and to all our existence.
(Pope Francis, Angelus Address, August 23, 2020)
SAINT ROSE OF LIMA,
PRAY FOR US.
Today's photo: Maybe I've seen a flower like this. Never have I heard it's name. Bird's beak lousewort, Mount Rainier National Park.
