RB: Ch 40 The Proper Amount of Drink
Mass: 2 Sm 7:4-5a, 12-14a, 16; Resp Ps 89; Rm 4:13, 16-18, 22 Mt 1:16, 18-21, 24a or Lk 2:41-51a
JACOB WAS THE FATHER OF JOSEPH, THE HUSBAND OF MARY. OF HER WAS BORN JESUS WHO IS CALLED THE CHRIST.
(Mt 1:16)
Saint Joseph leads the way for us. He was strong, courageous, and faithful. Joseph was a "righteous man, unwilling to expose Mary to shame" (Mt 1:19). Joseph lived Ps 111(112) that we prayed at Morning Prayer. It is a good psalm to pray today as we are united in the love of Christ and in faith. May Saint Joseph help us to "fear the Lord and greatly delight in God's commands" (Ps 112:1)
Happy are those who fear the Lord,
who greatly delight in God's commands.
Their descendants shall be mighty in the land,
a generation upright and blessed.
Wealth and riches be in their homes;
their prosperity shall endure forever.
They shine through the darkness, a light for the upright;
they are gracious, merciful, and just.
All goes well for those gracious in lending,
who conduct their affairs with justice.
They shall never be shaken;
the just shall be remembered forever.
They shall not fear an ill report;
their hearts are steadfast, trusting the Lord.
Their hearts are tranquil, without fear,
till at last they look down on their foes.
Lavishly they give to the poor;
their prosperity shall endure forever;
their horn shall be exalted in honor.
The wicked shall be angry to see this;
they will gnash their teeth and waste away;
the desires of the wicked come to nothing.
Ps 111(112)
We also pray with the Holy Father:
We pray today for our brothers and sisters who are in prison. They suffer a lot because of the uncertainty of what's happening inside the prison. They are also thinking of their families and how they are doing, some of them are sick wondering if they need anything. Let's be near those in prison today. They are suffering a lot during this painful and uncertain moment.
(Pope Francis, Mass, March 19, 2020)SAINT JOSEPH,
