Friday of the First Week of Lent

First Friday of the Month

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 29 Readmission of Those Who Leave the Monastery
Mass: Ezk 18: 21-28; Resp Ps 130; Mt 5:20-26

I trust in the Lord; my soul trusts in his word.

AS I LIVE SAYS THE LORD, I DO NOT DESIRE THE DEATH OF THE SINNER, BUT RATHER THAT HE TURN BACK AND LIVE.
(Communion Antiphon, Mass)

Welcome to the First Friday of the Month.

A response to today's readings comes from Saint Benedict in the Holy Rule:

YOU ARE NOT TO ACT IN ANGER OR NURSE A GRUDGE. RID YOUR HEART OF ALL DECEIT … PRAY FOR YOUR ENEMIES OUT OF LOVE FOR CHRIST. IF YOU HAVE A DISPUTE WITH SOMEONE, MAKE PEACE WITH HIM BEFORE THE SUN GOES DOWN.
(RB 4:22-24, 73)

Reach out to someone as this First Week of Lent draws to a close, especially someone with whom you have difficulties, a disagreement, or a misunderstanding.

HEART OF JESUS, OUR PEACE AND OUR RECONCILIATION,
HAVE MERCY ON US.
