Fourth Sunday of Lent

Laetare Sunday: Rejoice, O Jerusalem

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 43:1-12 Tardiness at the Work of God or at Table
Mass: 1 Sm 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a; Resp Ps 23; Eph 5:8-14; Jn 9:1-41

The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

LIVE AS CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT, FOR LIGHT PRODUCES EVERY KIND OF GOODNESS AND RIGHTEOUSNESS AND TRUTH.
(Eph 5:8b-9)

Thinking about the man blind from birth (Jn 9:1) in today's Gospel passage, I wondered if this man, whom many would consider disadvantaged, was born with the innate gift of seeing as God sees rather than as man sees. He, like the Lord, looked into another's heart (1 Sm 16:7). So gifted, he would not be caught up in appearances and be busy labeling people as tall, short, fit or fat, slender, black, white, brown, attractive or otherwise. Oh to rid ourselves of such judgements that often taint our thoughts, and our feelings and behaviors toward others. Jesus is passing by (Jn 9:1). Divine Physician, heal us, as we try to learn what is pleasing to you (Eph 5:10). Let us rejoice in the Lord on this Laetare Sunday and be grateful for the gifts God has bestowed upon us. We are united in prayer, faith, and the love of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

We pray with the Holy Father:

In these days we're hearing the news of so many people who are dying … dying alone, without being able to say goodbye to their loved ones. Let's think about them and pray for them. For families as well, who cannot accompany their loved ones on that journey. We pray in a special way for the dying and their families.
