Tuesday of the Twenty-Eighth Week in Ordinary Time

Saint Teresa of Jesus, Teresa of Ávila: Doctor of the Church (1515-1582)

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 12 The Celebration of the Solemnity of Lauds
Mass: Rom 1:16-25; Resp Ps 19; Lk 11:37-41

The heavens proclaim the glory of God.

Our Catechism quotes St Teresa of Ávila five times. One way to celebrate her today is to read each of the references found in CCC 227, 1011, 1821, 2704, 2709. The one included here is on the theme of trusting in God in every circumstance. It may be a stretch but it is not entirely unrelated to today's Gospel where Jesus is invited for dinner. One could interpret the invitation by the Pharisee to be an act of hospitality. Or one could see that the Pharisee meant only to test Jesus. Under any circumstance or in any situation we might find ourselves, hospitable or otherwise, we put our trust in the God of love and mercy.

Let nothing trouble you
Let nothing frighten you
Everything passes
God never changes
Patience
Obtains all
Whoever has God
Wants for nothing
God alone is enough.
(Teresa of Ávila, Poesías 30, in CCC 227)

SAINT TERESA OF JESUS,
PRAY FOR US.
