Friday of the Fifth Week of Easter

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 5:14-19
Mass: Acts 15:22-31; Resp Ps 57; Jn 15:12-17

Be exalted above the heavens, O God, above all the earth be your glory!

Jesus commands us to love one another. This is no superficial or fleeting love; this love is about laying down one's life for one's friends. In his chapter on the Tools for Good Works, St Benedict gives us some ways we might extend this kind of love .

Harbor neither hatred nor jealousy of anyone.
Do nothing out of envy.
Do not love quarreling; shun arrogance.
Respect the elders; love the young.
Pray for your enemies out of love for Christ.
If you have a dispute with someone, make peace before the sun goes down.

And, lastly, from Ch 72 on the Good Zeal of Monks:

Support with greatest patience one another's weaknesses of body and behavior.

GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER.
(RB 5:16/2 Cor 9:7)
