Feast of Saint Matthias, Apostle

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 2:23-29
Mass: Acts 1:15-17, 20-26; Resp Ps 113; Jn 15:9-17

From the rising of the sun to its setting, praised be the name of the Lord.

A suggestion for today is to search for an image of Caravaggio's Calling of St Matthew. It hangs in the church of San Luigi dei Francesi, Rome, along with two other pieces, Martyrdom of St Matthew and St Matthew and the Angel. Take a look at it while reflecting on a line from today's account of the selection of Matthias to complete the Twelve: 'You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this apostolic ministry ...' How do you see the Lord showing the one He had chosen?

THE LOT FELL UPON MATTIAS.

God proposes Himself, He never imposes Himself; He enlightens us, but never blinds us.
(Pope Francis, Twitter, May 14, 2019)

SAINT MATTHIAS, PRAY FOR US.
