Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter

Saint Christopher Magallanes and Companions, Mexican martyrs of the early 20th century

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 4:44-62
Mass: Acts 18:1-8; Resp Ps 98; Jn 16:16-20

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done wondrous deeds.

MARY, VIRGIN MOST FAITHFUL,
PRAY FOR US.

Alleluia! In today's Entrance Antiphon, the psalmist sings this: "O God, when you went forth before your people, marching with them and living among them, the earth trembled, heavens poured down rain, alleluia." With this good news, it seems a good time to remind ourselves of this, from Pope Francis in The Joy of the Gospel: "Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you; and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you" (164). Let's not forget it. The Lord marches with us, lives with us, enlightens, strengthens and frees us amidst our daily struggles, burdens, joys, and sorrows. We weep, we mourn, yet as Jesus tells us, your grief will become joy (Jn 16:20). Not to worry, then, I will not leave you orphans, says the Lord; I will come back to you, and your hearts will rejoice (Gospel acclamation verse, Mass). Keep your eyes fixed on Christ and keep going!

Listen readily to holy reading, and devote yourselves often to prayer.
(RB 4:55-56)
