OUR LADY, HELP OF CHRISTIANS
PRAY FOR US.

Happy Sunday!

As you can see listed at the top, we are busy on this Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. There are many things and people to pray for, including the safety and well-being of all Americans as they celebrate Memorial Day tomorrow, a federal holiday when we honor and mourn the military personnel who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Memorial Day is also the unofficial beginning of summer. Not to be overwhelmed, we are encouraged by Pope Francis in today's Regina Caeli Address: "The Feast of the Ascension tells us that Jesus, although He ascended to Heaven to dwell gloriously at the right hand of the Father, is still and is always among us: this is the source of our strength, our perseverance and our joy." And as Jesus tells us in today's Gospel: I am with you always, until the end of the age (Mt 28:20). We go forth supported by the prayer of Saint Paul: "May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened" (Eph 1:18); and the friendly reminder from Saint Benedict: "God loves a cheerful giver" (RB 5:16/2 Cor 9:7).

We pray with the Holy Father.

For the Church in China:

For the Chinese faithful, that they might be strong in faith and steadfast in fraternal union, joyful witnesses, promoters of charity and hope, and good citizens. Our Lady of Sheshan, pray for us.

For World Communications Day:

O Mary, woman and mother, you wove the divine Word in your womb, you recounted by your life the magnificent works of God. Listen to our stories, hold them in your heart and make your own the stories that no one wants to hear. Teach us to recognize the good thread that runs through history. Look at the tangled knots in our life that paralyze our memory. By your gentle hands, every knot can be untied. Woman of the Spirit, mother of trust, inspire us too. Help us build stories of peace, stories that point to the future. And show us the way to live them together.
Amen.
(Message of His Holiness Pope Francis, 54th World Communications Day, 2020)

For Laudato si Year:

Loving God,
Creator of Heaven, Earth, and all therein contained.
Open our minds and touch our hearts,
so that we can be part of Creation, your gift.
Be present to those in need in these difficult times,
especially the poorest and most vulnerable.
Help us to show creative solidarity
as we confront the consequences of the global pandemic.
Make us courageous in embracing
the changes required to seek the common good.
Now more than ever, may we all feel interconnected and interdependent.
Enable us to succeed in listening and responding
to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.
May their current sufferings become the birth-pangs
of a more fraternal and sustainable world.
We pray through Christ our Lord,
under the loving gaze of Mary Help of Christians,
Amen.
