MARY, GATE OF HEAVEN,
PRAY FOR US.
Today is a busy day what with all these saints to celebrate. We've Mary, Mother of Jesus; a French Cistercian monk martyred in Algeria; a French born turned Canadian missionary; an Irish Jesuit; and a Sicilian Carmelite. We invoke them all!
And a huge shout of gratitude goes out to all my regular and occasional readers. Today we've hit 1,000 blog posts. Yes, folks, that's 1,000! We've been going strong in our daily contribution to the New Evangelization since September 5, 2017, minus the last two days of 2017 when I found myself unable to manage even the slightest exertion. Since recovered and going strong, we declare with Saint Paul: "By God's grace I am what I am" (1 Cor 15:10/RB Prol 31). For, "she who boasts should make her boast in the Lord" (2 Cor 10:17/RB Prol 32).
We listen with the ear of our hearts to Jesus who comforts us: Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith in me also … I am the way and truth and life (Jn 14:1,6). We keep our eyes fixed on Jesus (Heb 12:2), then, for no comes to the Father except through Him (Jn 14:6). Let us be about joy, courage, vibrancy, and energy these days for "as we progress in this way of life and in faith, we shall run on the path of God's commandments, our hearts overflowing with the inexpressible delight of love. Never swerving from his instructions, then, but faithfully observing his teaching until death, we shall through patience share in the sufferings of Christ that we may deserve also to share in his kingdom. Amen." (RB Prol 49-50).
We pray with the Holy Father:
Today is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. Let us pray for the people who work in these meritorious institutions. May the Lord bless their work which does so much good.
