Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton (1774-1821)
First Saturday of the Month

Readings of the Day
RB: Prol 21-33
Mass: 1 Jn 3:7-10; Resp Ps 98; Jn 1:35-42

Let the sea and what fills it resound, the world and those who dwell in it.

LAMB OF GOD, WHO TAKES AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD,
SPARE US, O LORD.
LAMB OF GOD, WHO TAKES AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD,
GRACIOUSLY HEAR US, O LORD.
LAMB OF GOD, WHO TAKES AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD,
HAVE MERCY ON US, O LORD.

Welcome to the First Saturday of the Month and the First Saturday of the New Year 2020!

In today's reading from the Holy Rule, St Benedict begins in this way: "Clothed then with faith and the performance of good works, let us set out on this way, with the Gospel for our guide, that we may deserve to see him who has called us to his kingdom (1 Th 2:12)" (RB Prol 21). Using the Gospel as our guide, we read in today's Gospel account that "John was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he said, 'Behold, the Lamb of God.' The two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus." May we follow the disciples lead and follow Jesus. Our saint of the day is certainly someone who did.

By God's grace I am what I am.
He who boasts should make his boast in the Lord.
(RB Prol 31-32)

SAINT ELIZABETH ANN SETON,
PRAY FOR US.
