Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 10 The Night Office in Summertime
Mass: 1 Kgs 10:1-10; Resp Ps 37; Mk 7:14-23
LET THEM THANK THE LORD FOR HIS MERCY, HIS WONDERS FOR THE CHILDREN OF MEN, FOR HE SATISFIES THE THIRSTY SOUL, AND THE HUNGRY HE FILLS WITH GOOD THINGS.
(Communion Antiphon, Mass)
I reflect on the Queen of Sheba's response to Solomon's "great wisdom, the palace he had built, the food at his table, the seating of his ministers, the attendance and garb of the waiters, his banquet service, and the burnt offering he offered in the temple of the Lord" (1 Kgs 10:4-5). The Queen "was breathless" (1 Kgs 4:5). Should we not be breathless at the mirabilia Dei? O the wonders, glory and majesty of Our Lord who is ever merciful, filled with compassion and love even when we let the evils from within defile us (Mk 7:23). Ever merciful God, grant us the wisdom and prudence to not let evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, or folly rule our hearts (Mk 7:21-22).
BLESSED HUMBELINE,
PRAY FOR US.
