Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 22 The Sleeping Arrangements of the Monks
Mass: Is 58:1-9a; Resp Ps 51; Mt 9:14-15
A heart contrite and humble, O God, you will not spurn.
HEART OF JESUS, PATIENT AND MOST MERCIFUL,
HAVE MERCY ON US.
In today's Word proclaimed, we hear a lot about fasting. Why do we fast? To lose weight? "We fast in order to seek Jesus day after day and to desire to know his ways more. We fast so that this Lent Christ will become our All" (
Magnificat, commentary, February 28, 2020). For many of the ways to seek the Lord day after day and grow closer to Him so that He becomes our All, we can look again to the litany provided on Ash Wednesday, shared with me by Archbishop Arthur Roche. However we fast, may our days be "acceptable to the Lord" (Is 58:5). We go forth then and "seek the things that are above" (Col 3:1).
