Friday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

Saint Peter Damian, Bishop, Doctor (1007-1072)

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 18:1-6 The Order of the Psalmody
Mass: Jam 2:14-24, 26; Resp Ps 112; Mk 8:34-9:1

Blessed the one who greatly delights in the Lord's commands.

In today's Gospel Jesus presents us with the primary function of the work of His disciples: "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me" (Mk 8:34). We go forth this day in faith, with words from Saint James in our hearts and in our deeds: "I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works" (Jm 2:18). Where charity and love prevail, there God is ever found.

Let no one rely on the mark of the cross on his forehead if he does not show forth the truth of the cross in his works
… [so may we] minister lovingly to the needs of our neighbors and suffer injuries in a spirit of charity.
(Saint Peter Damian)

SAINT PETER DAMIAN,
PRAY FOR US.
