Tuesday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 7:51-54
Mass: 2 Sm 18:9-10, 14b, 24-25a, 30-19:3; Resp Ps 86; Mk 5:21-43

Listen, Lord, and answer me.

HEART OF JESUS, FOUNTAIN OF LIFE AND HOLINESS,
HAVE MERCY ON US.

There are a few things that stand out in today's Gospel. First, the faith of both Jairus and the woman afflicted with hemorrhages. Second, more about the woman. She had suffered for a long time-12 years. If 12 years of bleeding wasn't enough, she suffered even more from seeking medical attention. The doctors made things worse for her. Yet she knew she only had to touch the clothes of Jesus so as to be cured of her malady. After doing so, "immediately her flow of blood dried up" (Mk 5:29). Approaching Jesus in fear and trembling, the courageous woman "fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth" (Mk 5:33). May we be so transparent and of such integrity.

Let your face shine on your servant. Save me in your merciful love. O Lord, let me never be put to shame, for I call on you.
(Communion Antiphon, Mass)
