Saint John Chrysostom (309-407)

Thursday of the Twenty-Third Week in Ordinary Time

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 2:23-39
Mass: 1 Co 8:1b-7; Resp Ps 139; Lk 6:27-38

Love builds up.

LOVE initiates and sustains the commands in today's Gospel. 'To you who hear', says Jesus, 'love...'

Love your enemies
Do good to those who hate you
Bless those who curse you
Pray for those who mistreat you
If struck on one cheek, offer the other
Offer your tunic with your cloak
Give to everyone who asks
Do to others as you would have them do to you
Do good to your enemies
Be merciful
Stop judging
Give and gifts will be given to you

THE MEASURE WITH WHICH YOU MEASURE WILL IN RETURN BE MEASURED OUT TO YOU.

When we truly feel loved, we are led to reciprocate that love.
(Pope Francis, 'Theology of Tenderness', Conference, Rome, September 13, 2018)

Saint John Chrysostom, pray for us.
