Friday of the Thirty-Fourth or Last Week in Ordinary Time

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 48:22-25
Mass: Dn 7:2-14; Resp Ps (Dn 3); Lk 21:29-33

You dolphins and all water creatures, bless the Lord; praise and exalt Him above all forever.

HEAVEN AND EARTH WILL PASS AWAY, BUT MY WORDS WILL NOT PASS AWAY.
(Lk 21:33)

Welcome to the day after Thanksgiving! I imagine there are more than a few people recovering after a day of celebrating with family, friends, or community. We have a couple of days to settle in and prepare for Sunday and the beginning of the Advent season. God is praised.

One way to prepare for Advent to do so with joy and hope, hope in what awaits all of us, namely, our death, and in the words from the Gospel Acclamation, Stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand. In his homily this morning, the Holy Father extended an invitation for all of us to think about our death and be ready for it. "Think about your death," Pope Francis said, "pray for one another and, in order to be able to open the door with trust and confidence when the moment comes," pray to God, "Lord, prepare my heart to die well, to die in peace, to die with hope." While thinking about our death, we also continue to praise God with gratitude, living each day to the full, and even waking up with the following words from the Dalai Lama in our hearts and on our lips.

EVERY DAY, THINK AS YOU WAKE UP: "TODAY I AM FORTUNATE TO HAVE WOKEN UP. I AM ALIVE, I HAVE A PRECIOUS LIFE. I AM NOT GOING TO WASTE IT."
(The Dalai Lama)
