Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life.

AT ONCE THEY LEFT THEIR NETS AND FOLLOWED HIM.

We have been busy this past week reflecting on how truly blessed our life is. Today we are blessed by celebrating the Feast of Saint Andrew, a hard-working man, who along with his brother Simon Peter, was busy going about the daily business of fishing. Then Jesus walked by and their lives changed. As Pope Francis said this morning to those gathered at an International Meeting to discuss the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium The Joy of the Gospel: "It is when we encounter the Lord that we are flooded with that love of which He alone is capable … the need to proclaim the Gospel arises spontaneously and becomes irrepressible." It appears that Andrew and Simon Peter's need to proclaim the Good News became irrepressible, for at once they left their nets and followed Jesus! As we go about the daily, may we be flooded with the love of encountering Jesus and ready to be spontaneous in responding to the needs of our brothers and sisters.

The joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept His offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness. With Christ joy is constantly born anew.
(Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, 1)
