Saturday of the Twenty-Second Week in Ordinary Time

Blessed Virgin Mary
First Saturday of the Month

Readings of the Day
RB: Prol 45-50
Mass: Col 1:21-23; Resp Ps 54; Lk 6:1-5

God himself is my help.

On this First Saturday of the Month, we are encouraged by St Paul and St Benedict. St Paul tells us the conditions for being presented holy, without blemish, and irreproachable before the Lord: Persevere in the faith, firmly grounded and stable. Do not shift from the hope of the Gospel that you heard, for it has been preached to every creature under heaven (Col 1:23). St Benedict echoes St Paul in a sense putting it this way: May we run on the path of God's commandments, our hearts overflowing with the inexpressible delight of love. Never swerving from God's instructions and observing His teaching until death, we shall through patience share in the sufferings of Christ that we may deserve also to share in his kingdom (RB Prol 49-50).

Do not be afraid to set your sights higher, to allow yourself to be loved and liberated by God. Do not be afraid to let yourself be guided by the Holy Spirit. Holiness does not make you less human, since it is an encounter between your weakness and the power of God's grace.
(Pope Francis, Gaudete et Exsultate, 34)

MARY, HELP OF CHRISTIANS, PRAY FOR US.
