Tuesday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Saints Pontian and Hippolytus, priests, martyrs (-235)

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 59 The Reception of Children
Mass: Dt 31:1-18; Resp Ps (Dt 32); Mt 18:1-5, 10, 10-12

Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.

For today's reflection, I turn to Jesus' words: "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven." What does Jesus mean when he tells us to become like children? To stimulate your thoughts, I include words from the song "People", from the 1963 musical Funny Girl.

People-people who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world,
We're children, needing other children
And yet letting our grown-up pride
Hide all the need inside,
Acting more like children
Than children.

SAINTS PONTIAN AND HIPPOLYTUS, PRAY FOR US.
