Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 62 The Priests of the Monastery
Mass: Joshual 24:14-29; Resp Ps 16; Mt 19:13-15
You are my inheritance, O Lord.
In today's first reading, Joshua tells the people who have chosen to serve the Lord: "Put away the strange gods that are among you and turn your hearts to the Lord." Today we might think if there are any strange gods we need to put away; are there things that get in the way of us experiencing the true freedom of the children of God. Mary, Mother of good counsel, pray for us.
Our God is in heaven;
whatever God wills is done.
Their idols are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.
They have mouths but do not speak,
eyes but do not see.
They have ears but do not hear,
noses but do not smell.
They have hands but do not feel,
feet but do not walk,
and no sound rises from their throats.
Their makers shall be like them.
all who trust in them.
(Ps 115:3-8)
COME CHILDREN, AND HEAR ME; I WILL TEACH YOU THE FEAR OF THE LORD.
LET HIM TEACH US, THEN, AND LET US YIELD OUR EARS TO HIM, LET US YIELD OUR HEARTS TO HIM.
(St Augustine)
