RB: Ch 48 Daily Manual Labor
Mass: Gn 18:20-32; Resp Ps 138; Col 2:12-14; Lk 11: 1-13
The Lord is exalted, yet the lowly he sees, and the proud he knows from afar.
These words from St Paul's Letter to the Philippians proclaimed this morning at Lauds I find most comforting and encouraging:
Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you.
(Ph 4:4-9)
One thing we have learned, although from Jesus and not St Paul, is to pray the Lord's Prayer. This is what we are to say:
Father, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread
and forgive us our sins
for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,
and do not subject us to the final test.
LORD, ON THE DAY I CALLED FOR HELP, YOU ANSWERED ME.
