Saint Clare with Scenes from Her Life
Maestro di Santa Chiara, 14th century
Convent of Saint Clare, Assisi
I read something simple yet instructive about Saint Clare: 'Clare was a noted contemplative and a caring mother to her nuns.' I like to put it this way: Because Clare was a contemplative, she cared deeply for her nuns. As a contemplative, Clare would have spent time in silent prayer, listening to the God of Love, deepening her relationship and growing in intimacy with the Lord as the days and years progressed. Another noted contemplative speaks well on contemplative prayer: 'Contemplative prayer in my opinion is nothing else than a close sharing between friends; it means taking time frequently to be alone with him who we know loves us' (St Teresa of Ávila, 1515-1582). Clare knew Jesus loved her; Clare took time and nurtured her relationship with the Lord in prayer, loving God in return with her whole heart, soul, and strength. Overflowing with God's love, Clare loved those under her care. We are called to do likewise. JESUS LOVES YOU.
St Clare is the protector of television, embroiderers, launderers, gilders, ironers, and the blind.
In our silence we learn to contemplate God's works, which surpass all our understanding.

ST CLARE, INTERCEDE FOR US.
My heart overflows with noble words. To the king I address the song I have made.
