Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In other years: Saint Anne and Saint Joachim, parents of the Virgin Mary

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 46 Faults Committed in Other Matters
Mass: 1 Kgs 3:5, 7-12; Resp Ps 119; Rm 8:28-30; Mt 13:44-52

The revelation of your words sheds light, giving understanding to the simple.

Some encouraging words from today's readings come from Saint Paul: "We know that all things work for good for those who love God" (Rm 8:28). With Solomon then, let us pray for an "understanding heart" (1 Kgs 3:9) so that we know better God's ways and follow Him no matter what. Oh that pearl of great price, may we have the daily strength and courage to go and sell all that we have to buy it (Mt 13:46). Love the Lord God with you whole heart, your whole soul and all your strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.

We remember today all grandparents and ask Saint Anne and Saint Joachim, the patron saints of grandparents, to intercede for them.
