Saint Charbel Makhlouf (1828-1898)

RB: Ch 44 Satisfaction by the Excommunicated
Mass: Jer 3:14-17; Resp Ps (Jer 31); Mt 13:18-23

The Lord will guard us as a shepherd guards his flock.

HEART OF JESUS, AFLAME WITH LOVE FOR US,
HAVE MERCY ON US.

We are presented with a sower and four different seeds, a scene, says one commentator, that is "simple and familiar." It is the familiar ones that call us to open our ears and our hearts even more so we don't say, "yeah, yeah, I've heard this one before."  I like this presentation and it is one that invites each one of us to ask, "Which seed am I?"

The scene is simple and familiar. A field, a sower, and seeds. Some seeds grow and wither; others grow but are choked by thorns; others never sprout at all. Finally, there are those that bear fruit. With the parable of the sower, Jesus invites the faithful to prepare their lives, to be ready to receive the Word of God with all its consequences in order to bear fruit.
(Tony El Khoury, Lebanese priest, in Magnificat, July 24, 2020)

Divine Sower, help us to plant ourselves in you and not be daunted by the temptations, fears, and hardships that inevitably come our way. May we bear good fruit, fruit that will last!

SAINT CHARBEL MAKHLOUF,
PRAY FOR US.
