Readings of the Day

Rule of Saint Benedict: Ch 51 Brothers on a Short Journey

Mass: Jer 11:18-20; Resp Ps 7; Jn 7:40-53

O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge.

MARY, QUEEN OF PEACE,
HAVE MERCY ON US.

Blessed are they who kept the word with a generous heart and yield a harvest through perseverance.
(Verse before the Gospel, Mass)

This is what the guards are saying about Jesus in today's Gospel: "Never before has anyone spoken like this man" (Jn 7:46). What is Jesus saying to you today?

Fix your minds, then, on the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. Inflamed with love for us, He came down from heaven to redeem us. For our sake He endured every torment of body and soul and shrank from no bodily pain. He Himself gave us an example of perfect patience and love. We, then, are to be patient in adversity ...
Be peace-loving. Peace is a precious treasure to be sought with great zeal ... be converted, then, with a sincere heart. Live your life that you may receive the blessing of the Lord. Then the peace of God our Father will be with you always.
(From a letter by Saint Francis of Paola, in Office of Readings, April 2)

SAINT FRANCIS OF PAOLA,
SAINT JOHN PAYNE,
BLESSED PEDRO CALUNGSOD,
PRAY FOR US.

Today's photo: It's the deep, penetrating color of the leaves on this Lily of the Valley bush that attract me. It's one of my favorites around here.
