December 20

O clavis David!

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 64:1-6 The Election of an Abbot or Abbess
Mass: Is 7:10-14; Resp Ps 24; Lk 1:26-38

Who can ascend the mountain of the Lord? or who may stand in his holy place?

A BRANCH SHALL SPROUT FROM THE ROOT OF JESSE, AND THE GLORY OF THE LORD WILL FILL THE WHOLE EARTH, AND ALL FLESH WILL SEE THE SALVATION OF GOD.
(Entrance Antiphon, Mass)

Today we have Mary at the fore to help us prepare our minds and hearts for the celebration of the birth of her Son. May we, with Mary, be prepared to respond: "May it be done to me according to your word". Mary, vessel of honor, pray for us.

When praying with today's fourth great "O" Antiphon we join Mary and sing more boldly her own hymn of praise: O key of David and scepter of the house of Israel; who open and none can shut; who shut and none can open: come and lead to freedom the prisoner who sits in darkness and the shadow of death ("O" Antiphon, December 20). "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior"!

NOTHING WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD.
(Lk 1:37)

In all its genuine simplicity, Christmas reminds us that what really counts in life is love.
(Pope Francis, video message after meeting with the UN Secretary-general, December 20, 2019)

Today's photo: "Widderfeld, Nunalphorn and Huetstock", the so-called "Dreigestirn", Switzerland. Posted before, this stunning photo was taken and sent to me by a German friend last November 2018. It is worth sharing again, especially as an image with today's responsorial psalm.
