RB: Ch 18:20-25
Mass: 1 S 26:2, 7-9, 12-13, 22-23; Resp Ps 103; 1 Co 15:45-49; Lk 6:27-38
I give you a new commandment, says the Lord: love one another as I have loved you.
The psalmist gives us words to ponder:
Merciful and gracious is the Lord,
slow to anger and abounding in kindness.
Not according to our sins does he deal with us,
nor does he requite us according to our crimes.
(Resp Ps 103)
May we extend the same love, mercy, patience, and compassion. David managed: Do not harm Saul … The Lord will reward each man for his justice and faithfulness.
Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you.
To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic. Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back.
DO TO OTHERS WHAT YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO TO YOU.
BE MERCIFUL, JUST AS YOUR FATHER IS MERCIFUL.
THE MEASURE WITH WHICH YOU MEASURE WILL IN RETURN BE MEASURED OUT TO YOU.
To love our neighbor's welfare as much as our own: that is true and sincere charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned.
(St Bernard of Clairvaux)
For the grace this week to be kind and forgiving with people we find difficult to deal with.
