Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In other years: Saint John Chrysostom (349-407)

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 2:23-29
Mass: Sir 27:30-28:7; Resp Ps 103; Rm 14:7-9; Mt 18:21-35

The Lord is kind and merciful, slow to anger and rich in compassion.

HEART OF JESUS, OUR PEACE AND OUR RECONCILIATION,
HAVE MERCY ON US.

Holding grudges and remembering the sins others have committed against us takes a lot of energy. Doing so can make one bitter and resentful. And sour one's mood. So why not listen to wisdom from the Book of Sirach: "Forgive your neighbor's injustice; then when you pray, your own sins will be forgiven ... overlook faults" (Sir 28:2, 7). Then maybe have a sit and slowly pray the Lord's Prayer: Our Father who art in heaven ... Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

We cannot demand God's forgiveness for ourselves if we in turn do not grant forgiveness to our neighbor. If we do not strive to forgive and to love, we will not be forgiven and loved either.
(Pope Francis, Angelus Address, September 13, 2020)

SAINT JOHN CHRYSOSTOM,
PRAY FOR US.

Today's photo: Indeed the Lord is kind and merciful! A bit hazy yet welcome blue sky of Saturday afternoon. And I saw stars this morning! God is praised.
