Saint Antony, Abbot (251-356)

Thursday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 3:7-13
Mass: Heb 3:7-14; Resp Ps 95; Mk 1:40-45

If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Abbot Antony was a man who heard God's voice and did not harden his heart.

If you want to be perfect, go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor-you will have riches in heaven. Then come and follow me.
(Mt 19:21)

Do not be anxious about tomorrow.
(Mt 6:34)

If anyone will not work, do not let him eat.
(2 Th 3:10)

Pray without ceasing.
(1 Th 5:17)

HE REMAINED OUTSIDE IN DESERTED PLACES,
AND PEOPLE KEPT COMING TO HIM FROM EVERYWHERE.
(Mk 1:45)

Seeing the kind of life he lived, the villagers and all the good men he knew called him friend of God, and they loved him as both son and brother.
(The Life of Saint Antony by Saint Athanasius)

SAINT ANTONY, PRAY FOR US.

Let us be careful not to have a perverse heart that leads to cowardice; an obstinate heart that leads to being shut off; a heart that is slave to seduction that leads to a Christian life of compromise.
(Pope Francis, Twitter, January 17, 2019)
