Glorify the Lord with me.
MARY, QUEEN OF PEACE,
PRAY FOR US.
MARY, QUEEN OF APOSTLES,
PRAY FOR US.
You are Christ, the Son of the living God.
(Mt 16:16)
Happy Solemnity of the glorious Apostles Peter and Paul. Most comforting words come in Saint Paul's words from his second letter to Saint Timothy: "The Lord stood by me and gave me strength. The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring me safe to His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen" (2 Tm 4:17, 18). With this in mind and heart, we go forth, united in faith and prayer, so that we may one day proclaim with Saint Paul, "I have finished the race; I have kept the faith" (2 Tm 4:7). Heart of Jesus, full of goodness and love, have mercy on us.
This day has been consecrated for us by the martyrdom of the blessed apostles Peter and Paul. It is not some obscure martyrs we are talking about. Their sound has gone out into all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. These martyrs have seen what they proclaimed, they pursued justice by confessing the truth, by dying for the truth ...
We are celebrating a feast day, consecrated for us by the blood of the apostles Let us love their faith, their lives, their labors, their sufferings, their confession of faith, their preaching.
(From a sermon by Saint Augustine, in Office of Readings, June 29)
SAINT PETER AND SAINT PAUL, APOSTLES,
PRAY FOR US.
