Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.

Everyone experiences diminishment in one form or another as life goes on. Diminishment can be the result of short-term or chronic illness, accidents, age, or injuries as well as emotional stress, grief, and temptations. During times of diminishment we experience weaknesses we never knew we had. Paul called his "a thorn in the flesh". Paul begged the Lord for his thorn to leave him. And the Lord answered, My grace is sufficient for you for power is made perfect in weakness. Living and true God, grant us the grace to join St Paul in saying: "I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me. Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong."

The Guest House
by Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW; TOMORROW WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF. SUFFICIENT FOR A DAY IS ITS OWN EVIL.

A Prayer for our Enemies
by St Thomas More
Almighty God, have mercy on N. and N., and on all that bear me evil will, and would me harm. Their faults and mine together, by such easy, tender, merciful means as thine infinite wisdom best can devise, vouchsafe to amend and redress; and make us saved souls in Heaven together, where we may ever live and love together with thee and thy blessed saints, O glorious Trinity, for the bitter passion of our sweet Savior Christ. Amen.
Lord, give me patience in tribulation and grace in everything, to conform my will to thine, that I may truly save: "Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra."
The things, good Lord, that I pray for, give me the grace to labor for. Amen.

With you
have been hidden the unfailing treasures
of truth and grace
of peace and pity
of salvation and wisdom
of glory and honor.
(Adam of Perseigne in Mary Most Holy: Meditating with the Early Cistercians)
