RB: Ch 68 Assignment of Impossible Tasks
Mass: Ac 6:8-10; 7:54-59; Resp Ps 31; Mt 10:17-22
Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.
The Holy Father spoke about forgiveness at today's Angelus Address, calling us to learn from St Stephen's example of forgiving others. 'Forgiveness', Pope Francis said, 'broadens the heart, generates sharing, and gives serenity and peace.' St Stephen, intercede for us so that we are a people who forgive, even those who are infuriated, grinding their teeth, not listening, and dismissing us.
Grant, Lord, we pray,
that we may imitate what we worship,
and so learn to love even our enemies,
for we celebrate the heavenly birthday
of a man who knew how to pray even
for his persecutors.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity
of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
(Collect, Mass)
WHEN THEY HAND YOU OVER, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE TO SPEAK OR WHAT YOU ARE TO SAY. YOU WILL BE GIVEN AT THAT MOMENT WHAT YOU ARE TO SAY. FOR IT WILL NOT BE YOU WHO SPEAK BUT THE SPIRIT OF YOUR FATHER SPEAKING THROUGH YOU.
(Mt 10:19-20)
The Church grows with the blood of the martyrs, men and women who give their lives for Jesus. Today there are many, even if they do not make the headlines.
(Pope Francis, Twitter, December 26, 2018)
Saint Stephen, pray for us.
