Saint Anthony Mary Claret (1807-1870)

Wednesday of the Twenty-Ninth Week in Ordinary Time

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 18:12-19
Mass: Ep 3:2-12; Resp Ps (Is 12); Lk 12:39-48

O chosen people, proclaim the mighty works of him who has called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

It is said that Anthony Mary Claret, in addition to establishing a missionary order and founding a great religious library and publishing house in Barcelona, preached over 10,000 sermons in his lifetime, sometimes preaching six or seven times a day! He took the prophet Isaiah's words to heart, proclaimed in today's Responsorial Psalm: 'Give thanks to the Lord, acclaim his name; among the nations make known his deeds, proclaim how exalted is his name.' May we be so bold assured that it is 'in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness of speech and confidence of access through faith in him.'

By the power of this mystery, O Lord,
confirm your servants in true faith,
that they may everywhere profess in word and deed
the faith for which blessed Anthony Mary Claret
never ceased to labor
and for which he spent his whole life.
Through Christ our Lord.
(Prayer after Communion, Mass)
