HEART OF JESUS, BREAD OF LIFE,
HAVE MERCY ON US.

Welcome to December. I have been thinking this morning about today's Gospel passage, most specifically about the great crowds that came to Jesus the Divine Healer as He went up on the mountain and sat down. Hordes of people followed Jesus. They brought the lame, the blind, the deformed, the mute and many others. It may be a tendency to place these "ill" people outside of ourselves, and not think that perhaps we, each one of us, are all ill in one way or another and so gathered too. As someone reminded me the other day, we all do have vulnerabilities of some kind or another. It may not be so pleasant to discover them, embrace them, and with the folks in today's Gospel, put ourselves at the feet of Jesus and ask for healing. And, united in faith, we can bring all the other people we know who are suffering with us. We just may be made whole, in ways unexpected and greatly needed. Kyrie eleison. May we glorify God in mind and heart.

Keep God's word in this way. Let it enter into your very being, let it take possession of your desires and your whole way of life. Feed on goodness, and your soul will delight in its richness. Remember to eat your bread, or your heart will wither away. Fill your soul with richness and strength.
