O LORD, IT IS YOU WHO ARE MY PORTION AND CUP; YOU YOURSELF WHO SECURE MY PORTION.
(Entrance Antiphon, Mass)
Just a few words today, a quotation, one that emerges from the Antiphon above, and the last line of today's Gospel when Jesus says to us: Everyone one of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple (Lk 14:33). Possessions come in all forms, shapes, and sizes. And we discover different ones as life goes on. Lord Jesus Christ, may we prefer nothing whatever to you, and may we renounce all that keeps us from loving you, and from loving our neighbor as ourselves. Keep going!
Your heart wavers and you clutch at an earthly support. Very good; but take care that what you grasp to stop you from falling does not become a dead weight dragging you down, a chain to enslave you.
