MARY, MOTHER OF CHRIST AND MOTHER OF ALL CHRISTIANS,
PRAY FOR US.
A friend was telling me something her father of happy memory used to tell her and her seven siblings. It turns out that his words of wisdom are a sort of commentary on today’s Gospel passage where Jesus tells us, “The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones.” Here is what Dr Scully, my dear friend’s dad, used to say: “Work as if everything depends on you. Pray as if everything depends on God. Do all things with integrity.” It turns out that his words are another pep talk too. We are urged on this month by those who have gone before us. Even by Prisca and Aquila who “risked their necks” for their “co-worker in Christ Jesus”, Paul (Rm 16:3). God knows our hearts (Lk 16:15).
ALL SAINTS OF IRELAND,
ALL SAINTS OF AFRICA,
SAINT ILLTUD,
SAINT NUNO ALVARES PEREIRA,
BLESSED JOSEPH GIRBES,
SAINT JOSEPH,
PRAY FOR US.
