Readings of the Day
Rule of Saint Benedict: Ch 2:23-29 Qualities of the Abbot
Mass: 1 Cor 12:12-14, 27-31a; Resp Ps 100; Lk 7:11-17
For He is good, the Lord.
MARY, QUEEN OF PEACE,
MARY, HOPE OF THE DESPAIRING,
PRAY FOR US.
Now the body is not a single part, but many.
(1 Cor 12:14)
We remember that we are united in faith and prayer in the one Body of Christ. And "everyone has his own gift from God, one this and another that" (1 Cor 7:7/RB 40:1). In all that we do then, with the particular gifts given to each one of us by God, we do all things so that God may be glorified (1 Pt 4:11/ RB 57:9). In whatever ways we can, in word in deed, let us build the Body of Christ as we proclaim Christ crucified; Christ the power and the wisdom of God (Communion Antiphon, Mass).
THEY GLORIFIED GOD ... GOD HAS VISITED HIS PEOPLE.
(Lk 7:16)
Let the world be in upheaval. I hold to the Lord's promise and read His message; that is my protecting wall and garrison. What message? Know that I am with you always, until the end of the world!
(From a homily by Saint John Chrysostom, bishop, in Office of Readings, September 13)
SAINT JOHN CHRYSOSTOM,
PRAY FOR US.
We pray too for the Holy Father on his 38th Apostolic Journey abroad, this time in Kazakhstan. Pope Francis returns to Rome on Thursday. Mary, safety of all travelers, pray for us.
