Wednesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

Year of the Family "Amoris Laetitia The Joy of Love"

Saint: Saint Aelread of Rievaulx, Cistercian Abbot (1110-1167); Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys (1620-1700)

Readings of the Day

Rule of Saint Benedict: Ch 1:16-22 Qualities of the Abbot

Mass: 1 Sm 3:1-10; Resp Ps 40; Mk 1:29-39

To do your will, O my God, is my delight.

We have two models of faith in today's readings. First, there is Samuel who is ready to serve the Lord. May we, like Samuel, have on our lips and in our hearts the words, Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening (1 Sm 3:10). And then we have Simon's mother-in-law, who lay sick with a fever. I would like to know her name. Jesus approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. The fever left her. And what did the dear woman do? She waited on them (Mk 1:29-31). May we be so eager to serve the Lord. No matter what.

SAINT AELRED OF RIEVAULX,
SAINT MARGUERITE BOURGEOYS,
PRAY FOR US.

Today's photo: It may be winter but look what we have. It's the time of the year for the Camellias at our front entrance to get busy. We are blessed.
