RB: Ch 25 Serious Faults
Mass: Amos 7:10-17; Resp Ps 19; Mt 9:1-8
There is something I read some days ago that I've wanted to pass along. It is in a 1967 letter written by Algerian Sufi master Sidi Abdselam to Cistercian monk Thomas Merton. It is related to words, and the ability to set aside "the distractions of words", one's own and those of others, in order to realize mystical union. Now it is unlikely that I will realize mystical union anytime soon. However, I took note of what the Sufi wrote: "What is best is what is not said." Then I read this prayer in Magnificat last night:
God our Father, you have spoken into the chaos of sin the one all-powerful Word of salvation, your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Teach us to put our faith in the constancy of your Word and not in the multiplication of our words, through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

We have much to be grateful for; let us give thanks. And we have much to pray for; we pray for safety for all peoples and peace and good will all round.© Gertrude Feick 2020
