Friday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 32 The Tools and Goods of the Monastery
Mass: Hos 14:2-10; Resp Ps 51; Mt 10:16-23

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

PLACE YOUR HOPE IN GOD ALONE.
(RB 4:41)

The Lord says this through the lips of the Prophet Hosea: Because of me you bear fruit (Hos 14:9). It's pretty simple really. Without God we are nothing. It is only by the grace of God that we go anywhere or do anything. So may she who is wise understand these things; let the one who is prudent know them (Hos 14:10).

Not surprisingly, Saint Benedict follows his chapter on the qualifications of the monastery cellarer, or the director of the Department of Human Resources, with more words about how to care for the tools and goods of the monastery. For our purposes, we focus on the penultimate verse which doesn't need much commentary: "Whoever fails to keep the things belonging to the monastery clean or treats them carelessly should be reproved" (RB 32:4). It seems that the same applies in any home, office, parish, or anyplace where humans gather.

Invoke your favorite saint today. She or he will help you.

MARY, QUEEN OF ALL SAINTS,
PRAY FOR US.

Today's photo: I've managed to add a photo. The reflections of the last few days, the "photoless" ones, "naked" ones so to speak, haven't gone down well in my book. So I tried to borrow a photo from a previous post. Thankfully, it worked. Here then with a little ray of sunshine.
