A deserted place to pray

Sunday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 43:1-12 Tardiness at the Work of God or at Table
Mass: Jr 23:1-6; Resp Ps 23; Ep 2:13-18; Mk 6:30-34

Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and pray.

I was especially struck by the reading at Morning Prayer this morning. On this day of rest and prayer, St Paul's words seem fitting.

Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers
(Rm 12:1-13)

JESUS'  HEART WAS MOVED WITH PITY FOR THEM, FOR THEY WERE LIKE SHEEP WITHOUT A SHEPHERD; AND HE BEGAN TO TEACH THEM MANY THINGS.
