Friday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (1891-1942)

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 56 The Abbot's Table
Mass: Dt 4:32-40; Resp Ps 77; Mt 16:24-34

Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.

Today I remember the words of Cardinal Basil Hume: "We never tailor our own crosses: we don’t carve our own crosses to fit our own shoulders: it’s always the one that rubs just where it hurts; it’s never the cross of my choosing." Whatever comes your way this day, remember "the God who works wonders" (Ps 77). Jesus will help you, "for whoever wishes to save his life for His life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for the sake of Jesus will find it."

FIX IN YOUR HEART, THAT THE LORD IS GOD IN HEAVENS ABOVE AND ON EARTH BELOW, AND THAT THERE IS NO OTHER.

SAINT TERESA BENEDICTA OF THE CROSS, PRAY FOR US.
