Saint Polycarp, bishop and martyr (2nd century)

Saturday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 18:12-19
Mass: Heb 11:1-7; Resp Ps 145; Mk 9:2-13

Whoever wishes to come after me, must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me, says the Lord.

Our Father tells us, 'This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him.' May we open our minds and listen with the ear of our hearts to the word of God living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart (Heb 4:12).

Lord, focus our gaze on what is essential, make us strip ourselves of everything that does not help to make the Gospel of Jesus Christ transparent.

SAINT POLYCARP, PRAY FOR US.
