Pope Saint John Paul II (1920-2005)

Monday of the Twenty-Ninth Week in Ordinary Time

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 18 :1-6 The Order for Reciting the Psalms
Mass: Ep 2:1-10; Resp Ps 100; Lk 12:13-21

We are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.

In today's selection from the Holy Rule, St Benedict instructs us to begin each hour of the Divine Office with the verse, O God, come to my assistance; Lord make haste to help me (Ps 69[70]:2). This might be one phrase to bring to heart and mind, and to our lips each day upon waking, especially on a Monday. One might continue with today's Responsorial Psalm.

The Lord made us, we belong to him.

Sing joyfully to the Lord all you lands;
serve the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful song.

Know that the Lord is God;
he made us, his we are;
his people, the flock he tends.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
his courts with praise.

Give thanks to him; bless his name, for he is good:
the Lord, whose kindness endures forever,
and his faithfulness, to all generations.
(Ps 100)

POPE ST JOHN PAUL II,
PRAY FOR US.
