Congratulations to all Dominicans. Greetings and thanksgiving go especially to the Dominicans at the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas, Rome, Italy. What follows is a biographical sketch of St Dominic from Paul Murray, OP, The New Wine of Dominican Spirituality: A Drink Called Happiness, p. 186.

Founder of the Order of Preachers. Born in Caleruega, Old Castille, Spain. In addition to the friars he helped establish an Order of enclosed Dominican nuns. An 'evangelical man', single-minded in his determination to be a preacher of the Gospel, Dominic was remarkable for his dedication to prayer, his fearlessness and radiant joy, his zeal for souls and his quick and generous response to the needs of the hour. He was canonized in 1234.

In the midst of the Church he opened his mouth, and the Lord filled him with the spirit of wisdom and understanding and clothed him in a robe of glory.
