Friday of the Fifth Week of Easter

First Friday of the Month
Love is patient

Readings of the day: RB Prol. 14-20
Mass: Ac 15:22-31; Resp Ps 57; Jn 15:12-17

LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I LOVE YOU.

What is the love that Jesus speaks of in his commandment? It is love that is demanding, self-sacrificing, enduring, unconditional, and unfeigned. In other words, love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, endures all things (1 Co 13:4-8). Indeed, the love of which Jesus speaks demands our whole selves.

IF YOU KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS,
YOU WILL REMAIN MY LOVE, JUST AS I HAVE KEPT MY FATHER’S COMMANDMENTS AND REMAIN IN HIS LOVE.
YOU ARE MY FRIENDS IF YOU DO WHAT I COMMAND YOU.
